This one day conference will be led by Christopher Ellott, the Chair of the ISEB Common Entrance setting team for English. Christopher will share his experience of the Common Entrance English paper at 11+. The sessions will cover the core educational ideas that underpin the teaching of Year 6 English, as well as offering specific advice about preparation for the Common Entrance English exam at 11+. There will be opportunities for an interchange of ideas from delegates.

The course

This course is planned specifically for teachers preparing Year 6 pupils for Common Entrance English at 11+

Speaker: Christopher is a regular speaker at conferences on education. As well as leading the ISEB 13+ Team for English, he has worked on the examinations team for the North London Consortium of Girls Schools. He was Head of English at Radley College for 9 years, and has also worked as an English teacher at Tonbridge School and Brighton College. He is currently an English teacher and Director of External Communications at St Mary’s Ascot.

Session 1. 10:00 to 11:00 Analysis of the most recent session (Summer 2017)

Session 2. 11:15-12:30 Approaching Paper 1: comprehension strategies, exam technique, classroom practice,(including the importance of reading in the curriculum)


Session 3. 1:30-2:15 SPG and grammar

Session 4. 2:30-3:30 Paper 2: Extended writing, including personal writing; creative writing; structure
