Stress Management and Resilience Building: The Lead Team guide
• Why is it important that leaders have a good understanding of stress and resilience for themselves?
• Why do people become stressed in the first place?
• How can leaders and managers apply this understanding to their teams?
• What kinds of tools can help to manage discord and conflict within teams?
• How can team leaders maintain high performance and efficiency at work, without taking the stresses and strains of the workplace into our home life?

When leading teams we often feel pulled in all sorts of directions, and by any number of various roles and responsibilities, at any one time. As well as dealing with the everyday stresses and strains of our job we are looking out for our team, training newcomers, managing staff conflicts, supporting people through difficult times, and also reporting to our seniors, amongst many other challenges and tasks. It often becomes increasingly difficult not to take this stress home with us, where it can impact on our home lives, our relationships, and our families.

This course is specifically aimed at those who are managing teams, whether at a middle or senior leadership level. In developing a stronger sense of resilience in ourselves and gaining a better understanding of stress and the impact of stress itself, we become better placed to prevent becoming overwhelmed by stress. Thus we are better able to support and develop ourselves, as well as those in our teams. As well as exploring the relationship between stress and resilience, learning about the science of the stress response, considering how to manage our individual stressors and identifying our own resources, this training will look at management styles, conflict resolution, how to identify signs of stress in others, and how to support teams through difficult and challenging periods.

INSET Outline
Part 1: Understanding and identifying signs of stress in yourself and your team

To develop a better understanding of the basic science of stress, the stress cycle and signs of stress
To become more aware of how we respond to stress as individuals, so as to become better placed to prevent or minimise the impact of, burnout
To recognise the signs of stress in those we manage, and consider how to work effectively with this

Part 2: Managing conflict and working collaboratively

To consider various and conflicting management styles, and identify our growing edge
To manage difficult conversations and resolve conflict in teams
To develop and build on conflict management skills

Part 3: Taking back control of your work and wider life

To understand the value of good boundaries in the workplace, and to develop personal boundary setting
To understand the value of self-care, and consider how we can implement this when working in an intense environment
