A look at the unchanged syllabus for upper KS2 through the lens of the philosophy of the newly published CE science specification.

A look at the unchanged syllabus for upper KS2 through the lens of the philosophy of the newly published CE science specification. The webinar will include a ‘bringand share’ of creative ideas for projects that could be done with Y6 after the 11+exams but with other applications, e.g. science clubs or STE(A)M weeks.

Session 1:
The new ISEB Common Entrance specification places increased emphasis on the skills of science that prepare pupils for further science learning and ultimately for life in an increasingly technological society. We will take a skills-based approach to planning, through the medium of specific topics, including Materials (Year 5) and Evolution and Inheritance (Year 6), to promote the development of transferrable skills, especially self-initiated learning and discovery and evaluating information in the light of available evidence. Through the use of ‘big questions’, we will investigate how encouraging appreciation of cross-topic and cross-curricular links helps to embed understanding and encourage curiosity about the world.

Session 2:
A short ‘Teach meet’ style opportunity to share creative ideas and innovative resources to engage pupils with the fun of science, to enhance learning of a particular topic, extend more able pupils, make productive use of post-11+ lessons or as activities for a STE(A)M week or Science Fair. Science Shorts or longer projects welcome.
