This course focuses on helping non-specialist teachers to develop skills, ideas and resources to support learning in the music classroom. It will focus on highly effective strategies to identify and utilise delegates existing musical skills to plan and deliver high quality music learning to learners.

• To examine techniques to manage effectively practical music lessons to gain best results
Outline for the day
• Session 1 – an overview of an engaging music curriculum and the implications for the non-specialist teacher
• Session 2 – Strategies for creating engaging and motivating learning in Music
• Session 3 – Developing resources to support active and creative learning and good progress in Music lessons
• Session 4 – Managing practical music lessons to gain best results.
Steve is a music graduate and professional musician who taught music and performing arts for over 17 years in several UK schools before moving into senior leadership. After a successful career as a head teacher, Steve developed a portfolio of training courses, inspection work and consultancy services; which he runs through his successful business ‘Simply INSET’. Steve is a passionate musician and educator who aims to enthuse others with his passion for high quality active and creative music education that brings musical learning alive for children.
Steve is a pianist, singer and choral trainer who conducts several choirs, choral societies and music theatre groups as well as running choral workshops internationally under the banner ‘Simply VOICES’.
Most recently, Steve has completed a four-year project for the Ministry of Education in Kazakhstan, leading a team in planning and writing a new primary music curriculum for Kazakhstan along with a series of accompanying textbooks and music resources published through the international division of Cambridge University Press.
