Pupils with a Commonwealth connection wanted for fishing celebrations

The Canal and River Trust’s Fisheries & Angling Team is looking for pupils who have a connection to Commonwealth countries to take part in fishing celebrations as part of The Commonwealth games.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games are being held in the West Midlands and as well as the main competition period,  the wider Commonwealth Games celebrations will be going on for much of 2022.

The Canal and River Trust’s Fisheries & Angling Team has been asked to include four fishing celebrations with a Commonwealth theme. The events will be open to any individual with connections to a commonwealth country and there will be a teams of three component which can be fishing clubs, schools etc, similar to the National Celebration of Young People and Fishing that the Trust already runs on an annual basis.

The age groups for the events will probably be:

  • 7 to 10
  • 11-13
  • 14-16
  • 17-20
  • The Commonwealth nations can be represented by anyone who is a citizen of that nation or whose parents or grandparents were resident of any current commonwealth country.

SATIPS members are being given the opportunity to put pupils forward to take part in these events. For more information contact John Ellis, National Fisheries and Angling Manager, on  john.ellis@canalrviertrust.org.uk.
