New curriculum course for KS 1 and KS 2
This is a hands on workshop based course for KS 1 and KS 2 teachers. During the course we will look at key areas of the curriculum such as number, calculation, fractions and reasoning. You are invited to bring along with you a smart phone, camera, I pad or tablet to capture the mathematics on the day. We will explore other recent key changes to the primary mathematical landscape, such as the CPA approach (concrete – pictorial – abstract) and maths mastery.
Liz Gibbs has taught every age group from Nursery aged children to Year 8 in her local authority. In 2001 she joined the Suffolk Advisory Service as a numeracy consultant and ran the National Strategies whiteboard pilot in 2003/4 in her LA. In 2005 she joined the National Strategies as a National Whiteboard Regional Director for the East and East Midlands. Liz left the National Strategies to return part time to her local authority whilst building up her own freelance consultancy and in 2011 she decided to put all her energy into her own work. Liz works for a variety of mathematics providers and published along with three other co-authors Numicon teaching and learning materials in 2014. Liz is an international consultant and has travelled extensively, supporting British schools overseas and helping other countries embed new curriculums designed in the UK. A majority of her overseas time is spent in South East Asia and in particular Singapore, to which she makes regular trips and observes Singapore maths being taught in state schools. She is one of three consultant editors for the Inspire Teaching Guides, text books, practice books and assessment books and has a wealth of knowledge regarding the Singapore maths teaching approach. An avid supporter of hands on maths or maths using manipulatives (teaching and learning resources), she can see the benefit of this approach being used across schools. She is also an active member of the mathematics community.
